In 2022 I had the pleasure of working with Mandril Audio on the creative direction and illustrations for the cover of "Raiz Afro Mãe", a posthumous album by Mestre Môa do Katendê.
Mestre Môa was a teacher, composer, musician and capoeirista who left a great legacy for the people of Bahia and all over Brazil. When he sought out the studio, he intended to release an album that would be able to reach youth with messages of reverence for afro-brazilian ancestry and culture, but before he could complete the task, Môa was murdered during the 2018 elections, victimized by the growing wave of hate led by the Brazilian far-right.
Four years later, the album is released with 14 tracks featuring his recordings and other 16 renowned afro-brazilian artists.
