I had the pleasure of working with Mandril Audio as the Creative Director and Illustratior for the cover of "Raiz Afro Mãe", a posthumous album by Mestre Môa do Katendê.
Mestre Môa was a teacher, composer, musician and capoeirista who left a great legacy for the people of Bahia and all over Brazil. When he sought out the studio, he intended to release an album that would be able to reach youth with messages of reverence for afro-brazilian ancestry and culture, but before he could complete the task, Môa was murdered during the 2018 elections, victimized by political hate led by the Brazilian far-right. Four years later, the album is released with 14 tracks featuring his recordings and other 16 renowned afro-brazilian artists from various generations.
In this project, I was responsible for defining the concept and the visual style behind the artwork design, including assets, lettering, characters and the overall illustration for the cover, portraits of all music artists and a singular thumbnail for each track.
